Lumpur Lapindo mudflow volume Keep Rising

SURABAYA - Sidoarjo Mud Disaster Agency (BPLS) must work hard to drain the mud flow that has increased since the last six days on the Kali Porong, Sidoarjo, East Java.

"Per day, estimated to be around more than 100 thousand cubic meters of mud out of the center burst," said Ahmad Zulkarnain, a spokesman when contacted BPLS Legal (14/10/2009).

In normal conditions, mud bursts out of the center reaches 100 thousand cubic meters. Yet currently there is an increase volume in the blast center. This means that the volume of the mudflow in the center of a blast of more than 100 thousand cubic meters.

Zulkarnain said, currently there are approximately 12 pumps BPLS joint property and PT Lapindo Jaya Minarak. But from this pump 12, which used to flow the mud into Porong River is only approximately 7 pump only. "Not all of them operated as serve as a backup if the other pump is broken," said Zulkarnain.

Unfortunately, these operated pump can only flow of mud into Porong River is 10 thousand cubic meters per day. This means that only about 10 persennnya mudflow just from the outside who had poured into Porong River.

Since the dike ring sank in February, BPLS can not calculate exactly how much the volume of mud that came out of the Lapindo mudflow. When the dike ring is still there, can put BPLS counter mudflow volume. But now it is not possible anymore. (lam)
